The turn of the calendar year is always a reflective time for me, especially this year. 2022 was filled with many moments of joy yet also was unmooring in several important ways. Highlights of 2022 include resuming some limited travel, speaking, teaching, comic making, beginning research for my next book, and hosting – both the graphic medicine annual conference and our monthly Drawing Together gatherings. As for the lowlights, I’ve concluded that being unmoored is the only way one can get anywhere.
Looking forward to 2023, I’m eager to move into a new studio space, continue work on my next book project, and I will again be co-teaching our Death Panels course at the University of Chicago. There will be more guest speaking, including serving as the inaugural Kingfisher Institute Visiting Fellow at Creighton University.
