My most anticipated Michigan event of the summer season (that doesn’t involve fruit) is the Berrien County Youth Fair. It’s all about how tradition is passed down though the generations. My favorite exhibit is the Wonders of Birth barn. For a few more photos, check out my Flickr photostream.
Wandering through the goat barn, I wondered why goats have such a bad reputation. There must be a reason. Anyone care to share a good goat story? Because I enjoyed the company of goats today. I watched a two-year old girl be put into a pen with goats and all had a good time. The goats were good with a toddler. And, much to my surprise, she was perfectly safe with them. You can’t say that of most animals. So why the bad rap for the goat?
This goat’s eyes are really interesting. They’re surprisingly far apart and check out the pupils – they’re not round but rectangular.
I don’t have a bad goat story.
On the other side of the ledger, they’ve become a fixture in the hills around here: Parks and property owners hire herds of goats (and their human escorts) to crop down the thousands of acres of flammable grasses hereabouts. It’s kind of cool to be out on a bike ride and come across a hillside with a herd working away.
Hey, Dan, I bet more folks than just me would like to see that. How about a photo for MK to post?
