For your final project in this class, you are to create a four to eight page graphic medicine comic. Ideally, this comic will expand on some work we have done together in class, but it is permissible to do a new comic that serves your educational needs, or ties in to your thesis research. This is about you, not me.
To recap, in this course we have discussed health-related comics as they are used for education, research, reflection, memoir, advocacy, and any combination of the above.
To remind you, we have done comics about:
- health experience/issue memoir
- “how to” educational comics
- health/wellness-related research
- health related advocacy
- coping with difficult situations/mental health
- interviews related to any of the above
The upcoming deadlines for this project are:
- Project proposal can be submitted ASAP but no later than 4/16
- Final comic is due 4/27
- You will present your final project in class on 4/30
As you work, don’t forget the resources available to you on our class website and the Making Nonfiction Comics text. If you are stuck on how to do something, consult these aids.
ALSO, please don’t hesitate to ask questions by email or schedule a Zoom chat with me if you would like to discuss your project, even brainstorm or ask about available references/resources, or just talk out loud to think through an idea.
