Alice’s first art show opens tomorrow night. She’s oblivious.
In celebration of Chicago Artists’ Month, I’m exhibiting photography in Chicago for the first time. Here’s the show’s bio:
During October, Wishbone Restaurant, 3300 N. Lincoln Avenue, and Friends of the Arts will be sponsoring the show “Co-Creation.” An opening reception will be held October 9th, 6-9pm.”Co-Creation” spotlights pairs of artists – parents and children, couples and spouses – and exhibits extraordinary art in various mediums showcasing the co-creators’ relationships and how they affect their work.
Here’s our statement for the show:
Alice is a certified therapy dog and I am a nurse. Every Tuesday, Alice uses her therapeutic skills with her elderly friends. Throughout the school year, Alice visits Chicago Public Schools with Sit Stay Read. She listens attentively and is nonjudgmental as young students practice reading to her.
Both of these activities require Alice to muster great self-control and be on her best behavior. As a reward, I take her to the beach, where she can run without restriction, romp, play and be completely free.
Alice inspires my art both in her controlled role as therapy dog and when she runs with reckless abandon on the beach. I consider these photographic works co-created because they would not exist without her; she is both subject and inspiration.
I hung the show today and am very pleased with how it looks. If you are in the area and get a chance, check it out. Ten percent of sales will go to Sit Stay Read.
Love that photo of Alice! Can’t wait to see the show.
