I’m in London for the first international conference on Graphic Narrative in Medicine. The conference was yesterday, and it was an inspiring startup gathering of creatives and academics whose work centers on illness and health. A definite highlight was the opportunity to meet and chat with one of my favorites, Brian Fies, creator of Mom’s Cancer and Whatever Happened to the World of Tomorrow. Brian’s presentation on Mom’s Cancer highlighted why his book is an incredible asset to patients, families of patients, and caregivers. Brian was also kind enough to attend my talk, “Graphic Narrative Medicine: Can Making Comics Help Caregivers?” and give me some very encouraging feedback. Now on to two days as a tourist. Intended stops: the London Eye ferris wheel, the Tate Modern, the Portabello Road Market, and hopefully much wandering. Check out my Flickr photo feed for highlights.
