Hello beloved Jack! Happy birthday! ❤️❤️❤️
18 years ago today, we got a call at about 4 am or so that you were about to emerge into the world. We were on Porter Road in Michigan at the time, so your Aunt Cindy and I loaded up the car and headed to Hinsdale Hospital, because I promised your parents I would be there to advocate for you and them as the doula.
Many hours later, you emerged — blue (which means you needed live-saving oxygen.) It was scary. Have I told you this story? Maybe I have, maybe you heard it already. When the medical staff moved you to the incubator, working hard to “pink you up” as we call it in medicine, one of your arms was outstretched with a fist in the air. And I knew, as scary as it was, that you were going to be okay.
You have been loved since the moment of birth, and that love has only grown as we witnessed you showing us who you are: sweet, kind, a little mischievous. We celebrate all of it today.
We are so proud of you for all you do and are.
May this be the happiest of your birthdays yet and the beginning of a terrific year in your life.
As you stand on the precipice of your college years, Cindy and I are eager to support you 100% in all you hope and dream for your future. Our gift to you, as your aunts who love you more than words can express is this: Jack, if you ever need anything, we are here. If you are ever are worried about anything and don’t know what to do, or who to turn to, we are here. No matter what happens, we are here for you. If you are ever in some kind of trouble and don’t know where to turn, we are here. We love, support, believe in and celebrate you. Unconditionally.
Your Grandma Lorraine adored you (like seriously, you were all she talked about in her later years) and she would be so proud of the man you have become.
Again, happy birthday, beloved Jack. Sending so much love. (Also look for some $$$ in the mail soon to support your journey.)
xoxo Aunts MK & Cindy (also your other giant fan, Simon)
