This Keith Haring mural is one of two at Rush Medical Center here in Chicago. Haring started his art career illegally drawing in chalk on NYC subway walls. He finished it in fanfare as he painted in hospitals, schools, community centers and public plazas before dying of AIDS in 1990.
I walked past both the Rush murals just about every day in nursing school and again this week. They always brighten my day. It’s unfortunate but necessary, I suppose, that they were recently covered in plexiglass.
