Salon has a great story today about plastic bags – the ones we get at the drugstore, the grocery store, the produce market, the office supply store – just about everywhere. Michael Stipe of REM once said, “when you throw something away, where is away?” Plastic bags are the pefect example, because they just won’t go away. Even if you try to recycle them. According to the UN Enviornment Program, there are 46,000 pieces of plastic litter floating in every square mile of ocean.

What are we doing???

The solution? The article discusses alternatives – the only one that makes any sense is to bring your own. Reuse a paper bag or canvas one from home.
