Mourning the loss of one of Alice’s canine colleagues today, Rocky.
Rocky was one of the founding therapy dogs with Sit Stay Read. His adoring mom, Bonnie, is one of the founding board members and volunteers. In 2009, Rocky was the Sit Stay Read dog of the year, for which I was commissioned to do this portrait.

For photo reference, I was able to spend a day with Rocky, his sister Margie, and of course Bonnie and Bob, in Lincoln Park. I think it’s best to photograph a dog for a commission where the dog is happiest, which is why we were in the park.
It was a gorgeous summer day, and we made the absolute most of it.

Rocky was a very loving, accepting, sweet dog. He loved the Sit Stay Read kids and they loved him – as evidenced by the many, many pages of writing and drawings that the kids did about and for Rocky. Along the way, they improved their reading and writing skills.
Thank you, Bonnie and Bob, for sharing Rocky with all of us.
You can make a donation to help kids learn to read in Rocky’s honor.
What a great legacy he leaves behind.

Our most sincere condolences to Bonnie and Bob. Thank you for sharing Rocky with SitStayRead…Rocky made a difference in the lives of school children who needed him most! MK, thank you for this beautiful tribute.
