Voting is now underway for The Webbies, commonly referred to as the Oscar for websites. It’s worth checking out the nominees if you enjoy discovering new sites. It can be a bit overwhelming: there are eight overall categories, each of which contain between six and twelve subcategories. Each of these subcategories has four to five nominee sites. I’ve been going back now and then to vote for a few nominees each time. One site of note, in case you’re not going to make the effort to vote, is Elevator Moods, some amusing short films shot in elevators, presented in a very creative webdesign. The humor nominees are disappointingly not very funny. I did enjoy the Four Word Film Reviews, but only mildly.
The best nominated site to check out is a cartoon called The Meatrix.
If you are going to make the effort to vote, I am campaigning for Dogster (category Connections, subcategory Communities- Alice is a member!), Cafe Press (category Marketplace, subcategory Retail- they host my store) and local favorite Columbia College’s online student paper (category Connections, subcategory Student.)
Another site of note, not nominated, is that of former late night host Tom Snyder, called Colortini. I was a big fan of Tom’s second-generation show and was sad to see it go off the air.
Today Tom announced he has lymphoma- but his docs are telling him it’s treatable.
