After a successful get-to-meet-you class one which involved the pushing of many crayons, tonight we’ll dive into the drawing side of images in graphic memoir. I planned this week’s agenda with pencil & pen on paper and I must say I’m more pleased with this than having done last week’s on computer. (The teacher learns!)
Tonight we’ll talk about images, drawing tips, creating avatars, comic layout, tools of the trade, and close reading graphic novels as a creator. Phew! Luckily we have three hours.
We’ll start by watching this great talk Lynda Barry gave at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago in 2009. In it Barry discusses an idea that will work through the entire fifteen week course – what is an image? What do they do for us? How and why should we access our images?
