Blogging from lovely Anaheim, California today. Flew out the morning after class to speak with my colleague Michael Green at WonderCon and then at University of California at Riverside Medical School, both talks about Graphic Medicine in action.
New discovery as of last night: Disneyland scares me. Did not enter. But Michael and I had a great walk to the park from the convention center, which several people made clear IS NOT DONE. Apparently all steps, like all dollars, are to be saved up and used IN the park.
Class eleven was great. We started by watching the first half of a new documentary about syndicated comics called Stripped.
I wanted students to witness the focus, the dedication, the stress, and see the work in progress. They also were able, through this lens, to contemplate the ways newspaper comic strips reflect and influence American culture.
We then again worked on our comics projects. I reviewed the work they brought in from the week before, page one of their at least four page projects. Lots of great work happening. Eager to see them all finished, but enjoying the process as well.
We had some trouble airing it, but the drawing playlist has expanded. Here it is currently.
love this, MK. What a fab teacher. And I want your play list for my comics class! Where can I locate a copy of Stripped?
